“The Book of Mormon” Coming to Pantages in 2012

The smash hit musical from the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, “The Book of Mormon” is coming to the Pantages Theater for a special 12-week engagement starting September 5 through November 25, 2012. The Los Angeles stop will be the second stop of the national tour of the musical. “The Book of Mormon” is the story of two Mormon missionaries who are sent to remote African village with song and jokes that leave no religion or issue safe from making fun off. The musical won 9 Tony Awards this year including Best Musical.

In a statement released yesterday Parker and Stone said, “We moved to Los Angeles twenty years ago to try and make it as filmmakers. … The last thing we expected is that one day we would be bringing our Broadway musical here. It’s crazy and great.”

The production was co-written by Robert Lopez of “Avenue Q” fame. “I think we all assumed it would be less of a big hit and more controversial. That it would get a dialogue going. I think it did get a dialogue going, but there was very little controversy, and that surprised us all. The popularity of it also surprised us all,” said Lopez. Tickets for the show will go on sale in early 2012 and the cast for the national tour has not been announced as of yet.
