Featuring: Christian Picciolini Ex-White Supremacist

And author of White American Youth: Mark Potok from Southern Poverty Law Center

From the award-winning director Michael Perlman comes an incredibly timely film The Politics Of Hate that documents the last hundred years of hate in the USA and the interconnection between the American and European far right movements, supported by the Russian government.

Featuring Christian Picciolini, a former leader of the American Nazi and White Supremacist Movement as well as the author of Romantic Violence, has been a featured expert on both CBS Evening News and CNN, explores how he and hundreds of thousands of others are recruited, their beliefs and how he now works through his NGO Life After Hate, to pull people out of hate groups.

The film also features Mark Potok, the Senior Fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, representing an organization at the forefront of monitoring and combating hate as well as Menhaz Afridi, a Muslim American woman who serves as an advisor to the US Holocaust Museum and the Director of the Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Center at Manhattan College.

From the popularity of fascism and the klan in the 1920’s and 30’s thru the backlash to Obama’s election that fueled the rise of hate groups emboldened by Trump’s presidency, the film examines the remarkable similarities between then and now when great progress met a fierce reaction by those that felt threatened by changing demographics.  This is shown by the tragedy that resulted from the largest white supremacist march in decades in America that took place in Charlottesville and the ongoing migrant crisis that has swelled the ranks of the far right in Europe.
