It’s that time again! To Write Love On Her Arms, a non-profit movement, has announced the date of their sixth annual 5K on February 26th. The event will be held at the David R. Schechter Center in Satellite Beach, FL.
TWLOHA’s mission is dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide, according to their website. The non-profit has donated more than $2 million for treament and recovery measures, responding to more than 200,000 messages from people in more than 100 countries.
“TWOLHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also invest directly into treatment and recovery,” tells the movement’s website.
The website also features a blog, written by a staff of writers and visionaries that further support the mission of the movement. For instance, writer Jessica Morris titled a recent blog “What Does it Mean to be Brave?,” in which she shares her personal experiences of self-doubt and fear to inspire readers to work towards breaking that fear and developing courage.
“Brave is daring to believe again. Daring to believe that the light in me is greater than the darkness of my diagnosis. Hoping beyond hope that there is love and trust beyond the pain and mistakes of the past,” writes Morris.
Started in 2013, TWLOHA has witnessed hundreds of people running for health, recovery, or in memorial celebration of a loved one. In addition to sharing their message of hope to the local community, Run For It 5K has reached thousands more in all 50 states, evolving the event and organization simultaneously.
This year’s event will provide a scrumptious pancake breakfast for all registered participants provided by Downtown Melbourne’s hottest restaurant, Backwater. The event will host family-friendly activities and TWLOHA will present awards and raffle prizes for registered runners as well.
“I am always in awe of the dedication and passion so many bring to the Run For It 5K every year, from rallying people to create a team to fundraising for hope and help. Whether you’re participating for the first time or the sixth time, we invite you to move for something that matters,” said Elizabeth Wilder, Race Director and TWLOHA staff member.
