USA WINS!!! They Will Now Face Japan For The Gold

USA SoccerAlex Morgan scores a goal in the 120th minute of play to send the USA to the gold medal game on Thursday

Alex Morgan is able to end one of the hardest matches so far for the USA Women’s Soccer team at the 2012 Olympics yet defeating Canada, 4-3. Morgan scored the goal in the 3 minutes into extra time of the 120th minute and was only her second goal the first since the opening match of the tournament.

Canada fought hard the whole match even taking the lead in the game for the first time in 9 years. Christine Sinclair scored all three goals with the first in the 22 minute, second in the 67 minute and her last in the 73 minute. She so far leads all women in goals in the tournament with 6 goals so far.

The US women would fight back in the second half of play with Megan Rapinoe scoring the first goal in this match for the US in the 54 minute of play. She would also find the back of the net in the 70 minute. This started the rally to a comeback which would eventually lead to Abby Wambach in the 80 minute mark. On a penalty kick she would find her first goal of this match and the 5th goal of the tournament for her scoring in each game the US has played.

The USA Women’s Soccer team will now prepare for a rematch of last years World Cup finals match as they play Japan on Thursday, August 9 at 7:45pm PST.
