The Los Angeles video store and non-profit film organization has begun renovations to make the theatre its new home. Vidiots anticipates the renovations taking nine months to complete, and are aiming for a spring 2022 grand opening.

Vidiots founding members Karina Longworth and Rian Johnson have pledged $100,000 to the organization as a Matching Campaign that will end September 17.

In a joint statement, Longworth and Johnson said, “Given the recent demise or transformation of some of our most beloved places for moviegoing in Los Angeles, it feels more urgent than ever to celebrate and support the rebirth of Vidiots.”

Vidiots renovations to the 92 year old Eagle Theatre are being made with the intention of restoring it to its original role, an independent film house. Vidiots new home will feature a 250 seat theatre with 35mm and digital production, concessions and a light menu with beer and wine and a video store with over 50,000 titles for rental on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

The foundation will operate seven-days-a-week and produce a full program of repertory titles, new independents, hard-to-find gems, beloved classics, special events with partner organizations, all ages programming and year-round education and preservation initiatives.
