During its presentation at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner Bros gave attendees their first look at The Matrix: Resurrection – the fourth film of the beloved ’90s trilogy.
The trailer begins in a futuristic San Fransico, where Neil Patrick Harris talks to Neo (Keanu Reeves), who is trapped in a world similar to the first film. While taking in his surroundings and contemplating what it all means, he asks Harris if he is crazy, to which Harris responds, “We don’t use that word in here.” The trailer then shows Neo coming across Trinity, played by Carrie Anne Moss, in a cafe, unaware of who she is.
Directed by Lana Wachowski, the trailer sets the tone for a film that stays true to the original trilogy. With scenes of acrobats, mid-air stunts, and distortions, the trailer left those in attendance speechless and excited for its December 22 release.
Prior to the trailer viewing at CinemaCon, the studio showed a prerecorded appearance with Reeves and Moss in a “making-of” clip where they discuss the impact the first film had on their lives
The synopsis of the original Matrix film reads: “Have you ever had a dream that you were so sure was real? What if you couldn’t awaken? How would you know the difference between dreams and reality?”
The plot centers on a beautiful stranger (Carrie Ann Moss) who leads computer hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves) to a forbidding underworld where he discovers the shocking truth. That the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence. Neo joins legendary and dangerous rebel warrior Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) in the battle to destroy the illusion of enslaving humanity.
