CUPERTINO, Calif. (June 9, 2025) — Apple on Monday introduced a range of Apple Intelligence features designed to enhance the user experience across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.

The new capabilities include tools like Live Translation, improved visual intelligence, and creative updates to Genmoji and Image Playground. Shortcuts now integrate more deeply with Apple Intelligence, and developers will have access to the on-device large language model powering the system. Apple Intelligence features are available for testing now and will roll out this fall to users with supported devices and languages.

“Last year, we began our journey to bring users intelligence that’s helpful, relevant and private,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Now, our models are even more capable and efficient, and we’re integrating features deeper into each of our platforms. Developers can now access our on-device foundation model, unlocking new intelligent experiences across apps users rely on every day.”

Apple plans to expand Apple Intelligence features to eight more languages by year’s end, including Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.

Live Translation Breaks Down Language Barriers

Live Translation enables real-time communication across languages in Messages, FaceTime and Phone. The tool translates text and speech entirely on device. In Messages, texts can be translated as users type and received in the recipient’s preferred language. On FaceTime, live captions appear with translations, while Phone calls include spoken translations throughout the conversation.

Creative Tools Expand With Genmoji and Image Playground

Apple is expanding self-expression through updates to Genmoji and Image Playground. Users can now blend emoji or add descriptions to generate unique visuals. In Image Playground, users can choose new styles — including oil painting or vector art — and generate custom images using descriptions or photos. All ChatGPT integrations require user permission, and nothing is shared without consent.

Visual Intelligence Gets Smarter

Visual intelligence now supports on-screen interaction, allowing users to take action or learn more about content across apps. For example, users can highlight an object on screen and search for similar products online or add a detected event to their calendar. These capabilities are accessible using the same controls used for taking a screenshot.

Apple Intelligence Comes to Apple Watch With Workout Buddy

Workout Buddy uses Apple Intelligence to deliver personalized workout insights based on a user’s fitness data, including heart rate, pace, distance and activity milestones. The feature uses a text-to-speech model trained on Fitness+ trainer voices to provide dynamic feedback during workouts. Workout Buddy requires Bluetooth headphones and a supported iPhone nearby. It will launch in English with support for several popular workout types, including running, cycling and strength training.

Developers Get Access to On-Device Intelligence

With the new Foundation Models framework, developers can integrate Apple Intelligence directly into apps. The system offers offline capabilities, privacy-first processing, and no cloud API costs. Swift developers can add features such as personalized quizzes or offline natural language search with minimal code. Built-in tools like guided generation and tool calling simplify implementation.

Shortcuts Become More Intelligent

Shortcuts now support intelligent actions powered by Apple Intelligence. Users can create customized shortcuts with features like text summarization or image generation. Apple Intelligence models, either on-device or through Private Cloud Compute, handle requests while maintaining user privacy. ChatGPT integration is also available for expanded functionality.

Additional Apple Intelligence Features

Apple Intelligence now enhances several core apps:

  • Reminders automatically identify and categorize relevant actions.
  • Wallet summarizes and tracks order deliveries from emails.
  • Messages can suggest polls and offer customizable backgrounds.
  • Writing Tools support rewriting, summarizing and even creative changes to user-written text.
  • Clean Up in Photos removes distractions while preserving the moment.
  • Siri is more conversational, context-aware and offers product support.
  • ChatGPT integration in Siri and Writing Tools adds image and document understanding.
  • Natural language search and memory creation in Photos simplify photo management.
  • Notes and call transcriptions are now summarized automatically.
  • Priority Messages and Notifications surface time-sensitive content.
  • Previews and summaries help users stay informed without opening emails or messages.
  • Focus modes like Reduce Interruptions filter out low-priority alerts.

Privacy at the Core

Apple Intelligence is built with privacy in mind. Many models run entirely on device. When larger models are required, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute ensures user data is never stored or shared. Independent experts can audit the code running on Apple’s servers to verify privacy protections, representing a major advancement in private AI.
