NEWS X MUSE Manny Gomez spoke with Eugenio Derbez, star of the new 3pas Studios & Pantelion Films feature, “Radical”, directed and written by Christopher Zalla. It was the winner of the “Festival Favorite Award” at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

During our conversation, we chatted about the true story behind the film and how he believes the real-life Sergio in “Radical”, could be considered the first real-life Mexican superhero on the big screen. He also comments about working with so many kids getting in front of a camera for the first time. It’s a fantastic interview that you can check out above.

Here is the synopsis for “Radical”

In a Mexican border town plagued by neglect, corruption, and violence, a frustrated teacher (Eugenio Derbez) tries a radical new method to unleash the curiosity and potential of his students … and maybe even their genius. Based on a true story.

“Radical” is in theaters everywhere on November 3rd.

The film highlights the potential of students everywhere, not just Mexico. Still, the challenge is that not all students have equal opportunities as they are often concentrated in schools with limited resources.

Inspired by the story in “Radical”, Participant and Hispanics in Philanthropy created the Radical Fund to raise funds to support 12 organizations working to close that achievement gap for Latin students through school retention, graduation, STEAM, leadership development, and healing-centered strategies.
