MUSE TV‘s Jennifer Ortega recently spoke with Andy Grush and Taylor Newton Stewart (The Newton Bros) about composing the score for currently released Netflix’s horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor. The series is created by frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan and stars Victoria Pedetti and Henry Thomas.

Based on the iconic ghost stories of Henry James, The Haunting of Bly Manor just premiered on Netflix.

The Newton Brothers are two of today’s most versatile composers, specializing in the support of profound storytelling with their unique blend of traditional instrumentation steeped in synthesizers, visceral layers of inorganic melodies, textures and harmonies.

Of The Newton Brothers, Flanagan has said: “They see beyond the score, and see the film itself as a symphony, and then refine their score so that it fits in harmony with all of the other elements. They create elaborate, terrifying and even gorgeous music. And they have never once repeated themselves.”

Previous credits include AMC’s The Walking Dead: World Beyond; Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House (executive produced by Flanagan, Trevor Macy and Steven Spielberg); Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to “The Shining,” Doctor Sleep, starring Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson; Mike Flanagan and Blumhouse Productions’ Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil; Nicolas Pesce’s The Grudge, starring Andrea Riseborough and Lin Shaye; Ben Young’s sci-fi epic Extinction; Tony Kaye’s Detachment, starring Academy Award-winner Adrien Brody; and many more.
