NEWS X MUSE Manny Gomez spoke with Searit Huluf director of “SELF”. This is one of the latest short films from the SparkShorts program that is produced by Pixar. You can watch it now on Disney+.

In our conversation with Searit, we talk about her journey in creating “SELF”. She shares with us some of the benefits of the SparkShorts program that allow her and other animators the opportunity to showcase their talents as well as express themselves through creative storytelling. She shares with us why this story in particular was so important to her. As well as why she picked the particular textures and sounds that bring the film together. In SELF, a wooden puppet who desperately wants to fit in makes an ill-fated wish upon a star, sparking a journey of self-discovery. Her desire to blend in with her peers leads her down a harmful path, challenging her perspective of both who she is and where she belongs.
