Barco announced Thursday that four upcoming Sony Pictures releases will be available in its premium HDR format, adding to a growing slate of films the Belgian projection technology company is bringing to theaters in high dynamic range.
The titles — “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” “Insidious: Out of the Further,” “Resident Evil” and “Jumanji: Open World” — span genres from superhero action to horror to holiday adventure and are scheduled for release between July and December.
The announcement came during CinemaCon, the annual gathering of theater owners held April 13-16 in Las Vegas.
HDR by Barco uses the company’s patented Lightsteering technology to redistribute light on screen, producing highlights more than six times brighter than traditional projection while retaining detail in darker areas. The format is designed to give filmmakers a wider color range and higher contrast images.
The four films follow earlier 2026 HDR by Barco releases from Sony Pictures, including “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” and “Goat.”
Here is a look at the upcoming titles:
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” — July 31
Four years after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Peter Parker is now an adult living entirely alone, having erased himself from the memories of those he loves. Devoted entirely to protecting New York City, he faces a new physical evolution and one of the most powerful threats he has ever encountered.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. It is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O’Connor.
“Insidious: Out of the Further” — Aug. 21
The fifth installment of the “Insidious” franchise — which has earned more than $740 million at the global box office — follows Gemma (Amelia Eve), a young mother who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm at the heart of the series, and bring what lives there back to the real world.
Lin Shaye reprises her role as Elise Rainier. The film is directed by Jacob Chase and produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Brandon Perea also stars.
“Resident Evil” — Sept. 18
Directed by Zach Cregger, known for “Barbarian,” the film is a reinvention of the long-running franchise. Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier, finds himself in a non-stop race for survival as a horrifying night collapses around him. The film also stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser.
“Jumanji: Open World” — Dec. 25
The latest installment of the “Jumanji” franchise reunites Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. This time, the game breaks free of its console and unleashes chaos into the real world. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan and also stars Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito.
