Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, actress, and activist, Becky G continues to explore new sounds as she delves further into her Mexican heritage this time with the release of her latest single “La Nena” alongside Mexican singer-songwriter Gabito Ballesteros.
After building anticipation for the collaboration as she teased it on socials for the past week, Becky presents the track via Kemosabe Records / Sony Music Latin / RCA Records. From trumpets to strings, the song’s enticing rhythm is complemented with the harmonizing voices of Becky G and Gabito to create a summer jam. “La Nena” is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
Composed and produced by Edgar Barrera and Gabito Ballesteros, the single is the star’s latest Corrido that gives another glimpse of what’s to come in the Latin GRAMMY-nominated star’s upcoming album. The lyrics tell the story of a woman who is empowered and chooses to continue dancing through life despite having her heart broken. Set in a strip club, the video was produced by WeOwnTheCity and directed by Santiago Lafee. It also marks the first time Becky serves as creative director for a video alongside Daniela Matos. Becky takes the stage to not only deliver her verse but also dances in a bright pink outfit covered in jewels illustrating her natural ability to conquer the club. Gabito owns his part as he croons his lyrics that praise “La Nena” (the girl) and at one point becomes hypnotized by one of the dancers, symbolizing la nena’s power over the club.
“La Nena” comes after Becky G’s 8 nominations for Univision’s “Premios Juventud” and the announcement of her role as the voice of Khaji-Da in the upcoming DC superhero movie Blue Beetle. This month, Becky also released her single “The Fire Inside” featured on the motion picture soundtrack from Searchlight Pictures’ Flamin’ Hot directed by Eva Longoria.
